Suminagashi · 墨流し

Floating ink.

Trace the water with your cursor. Ink floated on a still surface, the way it was done a thousand years ago — for the reader who got this far.

Your browser needs WebGL to float the ink. The colophon is back the way you came.

Suminagashi (墨流し) — ink floated on still water, here as a real-time fluid simulation. After an interactive versionbuilt by hayashimon1, which is what sent me down this path. The art form itself is nine centuries old.
